Today, many buildings have multiple legacy network architectures installed to support the various building security and automation systems and devices. Lighting, CCTV, HVAC and Access Control are just a few examples.
As a result we see complex and expensive system management issues, high installation costs, limited functionality and few integration opportunities.
The last decade has seen the traditionally proprietary telephony systems migrate to IP and operate on the corporate LAN. The CCTV industry is witnessing a similar migration process.
IP based video and telephony systems are exploding in popularity for many reasons, but the key factor is cost. Since the IT infrastructure, in most cases, is necessary for the business to function and has to be there, it is far more cost effective to extend this architecture to incorporate these traditionally disparate systems on the same IP platform than it is to install separate legacy networks for each system.
Beyond just cost savings, however, is the potential to integrate- to get the systems working together and working for you. Because these systems now operate on the same open platform, there is enormous potential for integration.
With this ethos in mind, Netgenium Systems set out to develop a range of products, native to the IP network, capable of providing many of the building management solutions we have talked about.
Today we have Lighting Control, Access Control, Audio and Door Entry solutions. Tomorrow…..who knows.
